Finding Relief in the "End of Year Crunch"

Posted by Alina Liao on

I've been noticing lately that I'm feeling a constant pressure. As I journaled about it in my Zenit Journal, I figured out it's coming from the "end of year crunch." We're into November, the holidays are coming up, the end of the year is in sight. (Breathe...) My mind has been going through all I've wanted to accomplish in 2022. I'm feeling this sense of "I'm running out of time!" and from that, a lowkey panic to try to get it all in before the end of the year.

At the same time, I've been doing lots of journaling and reflecting on the fall, how the brilliant colors of the leaves and the falling of the leaves invites me to shed whatever isn't serving me. So lately, when I feel that wave of panic from the end of year crunch, a mantra that's helped is, "let it go." Let it go to 2023. Let me just focus on ending the year on a positive note.

This morning, in my Zenit Journal, I wrote out three - and only three - main things I want to focus on ending strong by the end of the year. With that, came relief. As long as I get done these priorities 1, 2, and 3, that will be enough.

This allowed me to let go of all the other goals and activities and to-do lists I've been carrying with me through 2022. It's a bit scary to decide to put something off until 2023, because my worst-case voice asks whether I'll be able to handle it then, but at the end of the day, I know in my body that I can't do it all in these next two months, so let me give myself some relief now and focus only on these three priorities.

How are you feeling during this time of year? Are there goals or things you can let go of - and priorities you can focus your energy on - to give yourself some relief? See if you can explore with some gentle self-care journaling and find that place that gives you some relief - that gets you to, "yes, that is enough."
