Why does understanding trauma support our healing and wellness? When we've experienced trauma, or have trauma, this information helps us know that there's nothing wrong with us. You’re not "crazy" - what you're experiencing is a natural and human response to trauma. This is validating, empowering, and creates a path forward for healing.

When you can identify something you're experiencing as a human response to trauma, you build or self-awareness, and you can gain our sense of power over your trauma. Just like learning about your human biology and anatomy can help you make better decisions for your physical health - like what you eat - understanding the impacts of trauma can help you make decisions about what serves your mental wellness, and what doesn’t.

We’re often told to be strong, to be positive, to push through. But it doesn't serve us to just push through. Trauma requires healing - acknowledging the pain, the trauma, and processing it. "Healing begins where the wound was made" - Alice Walker.

Self care journaling gives us a safe space to process our trauma - both what happened and how the trauma is affecting us now. Self care journaling can help us understand when we're triggered, what our triggers are, and when we're experiencing a trauma response. Self care journaling can gives us a safe space to identify and work through the times we're triggered in the moment. Self care journaling can also help us develop our own personal "trauma narrative" - which helps us make sense of our trauma and frame our trauma in a way that gives us a sense of acceptance and peace, so we can move forward in our healing.

When you have trauma, you can end up thinking there’s something wrong with you. Like you're not strong enough or not good enough. But remember - there is nothing wrong with you. You are a human being, and painful, unfair things have happened to you. Fear, anxiety, depression...these are all human responses to trauma. And no matter how long ago the trauma, healing is always possible. That's what this self care journaling video retreat is all about.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not diagnosing or pathologizing anyone with trauma. Zenit's services and products are not a substitute to therapy. Unpacking the trauma you have personally experienced is something we recommend doing with the support of a mental health clinician such as a therapist, in addition to with self care journaling.
